General FAQ about Barista School Perth

About BSP:

Why choose Barista School Perth?

Jessie’s Café is a successful business in Myaree and home to Barista School Perth. Next door to the café is our affiliated enterprise, Little Owl Coffee Roasters which provides the school with freshly roasted quality beans. Because we’re industry professionals you will learn much more than just brewing skills. You will gain first-hand experience from actual baristas and roasters who are up-to-date and knowledgeable about the café industry and products.

Is Barista School Perth Inclusive?

Yes, we pride ourselves on delivering courses to suit all ability levels. The courses are conducted at Jessie’s Café which holds an approved Public Building Licence. Wheelchair access and disabled toilets are available on the premises.

How many participants in a class?

As a boutique Barista School we limit class numbers to around 9 participants to ensures personal attention in a relaxed and fun environment.

How many trainers?

As class numbers are small we have one specialised trainer to deliver the course.

Is there one machine per person?

We have three state of the art 2-group commercial café machines so you will have plenty of hands on time to familiarise yourself with the machines and practice new skills.

BSP Courses:

I have little or no coffee making experience / skills. What class should I choose?

We recommend you start with our Signature and Professional Class. This class will give you all the core knowledge and skills you require to take your coffee making skills from zero – hero!

I want to work as a barista! What do I need to do?

To work as a Barista we recommend that you undertake both the Signature and Professional class and the Advanced class. The Signature and Professional class will ensure you have the basics down and then the Advanced class will give you skills and strategies needed for working in a busy café. You will get a certificate of completion at the end of both classes.

If you want to give yourself the edge with perspective employers and up your coffee knowledge you may like to compliment these classes with the Latte Art and Roasting Appreciation classes.

All bookings can be made via our website.

Can I complete both the Signature and Professional Class AND the Advanced Barista Class in 1 day?

If the Signature and Professional Course and the Advanced Barista Class are being held on the same day then yes, absolutely!

How young is too young to attend a class?

We take children high school aged and above. It really is a matter of maturity and interest. If you are unsure about your child attending, please do not hesitate to contact us to discuss.

Will I be able to get a job after the completion of the course?

This depends on how good you are at making coffee! We don’t offer job placements but good Baristas are always in demand worldwide. Like any new skill, practice makes perfect.

We recommend that anyone looking to work in the industry completes both the Signature and Professional and the Advanced classes. After completion of these courses you may wish to enroll in the Latte Art course which will refine your skills and teach you how create fabulous artworks in your coffee. You may also like to increase your coffee knowledge and impress prospective employers by participating in our Roasting Appreciation class.

Are you an accredited training organisation?

We have thought about it and decided against it. A registered training organisation requires that you be taught by a qualified teacher. We think that you should be taught to make coffee by an experienced BARISTA. Our Barista’s are passionate and experienced coffee lovers. In fact, we would go as far as to say they are a little obsessed with coffee. The result is classes taught by those in the know!
